Database Developer

Job description

• Senior SQL Database Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance database solutions based on MS SQL Server.

The role requires strong expertise in database architecture, complex SQL development, query optimization, stored procedures, data modeling, ETL processes, reporting, and database performance troubleshooting. The Senior SQL Database Developer will work closely with software engineers, business stakeholders and other technical teams to deliver reliable, scalable and high-quality data solutions.

The position also involves taking ownership of complex database-related initiatives, contributing to technical standards and best practices, identifying opportunities for improvement, and supporting the development of robust and maintainable database solutions across the organization.

Job responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable and reliable database solutions.
• Develop and optimize complex T-SQL/PL/SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
• Analyze and optimize query execution plans, indexing, locking, blocking, and deadlocks.
• Design and optimize relational database structures and data models.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes and data integration solutions.
• Design data flows from raw source data to trusted, business-consumable datasets.
• Develop complex datasets and queries for applications, BI, and reporting.
• Troubleshoot complex database and production performance issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Participate in database architecture and technical design decisions.
• Participate in the planning and estimation of database-related development tasks.
• Review existing database solutions and identify opportunities for performance, reliability, maintainability, and cost improvements.
• Establish and follow database development standards and best practices.
• Review database code and provide technical guidance to other developers.
• Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to less experienced database developers.
• Work with business and technical teams to translate requirements into effective database solutions.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of professional database development experience.
• Strong experience with MS SQL Server 2012+
• Advanced T-SQL and PL/SQL skills.
• Strong knowledge of query execution plans, indexing, normalization, transactions, locking, blocking, and deadlocks.
• Strong database design and data modeling skills.
• Experience with ETL and data warehouse solutions.
• Experience optimizing databases and queries with large data volumes.
• Experience troubleshooting production database issues.
• Understanding of database security, backup/recovery, and high-availability concepts.
• Experience with XML/JSON and system/database integrations.
• Ability to independently analyze complex problems and make technical decisions.
• Ability to work with business stakeholders and translate unclear business requirements into clear technical solutions.
• Ability to independently analyze problems, make technical decisions, and take ownership of database-related tasks and projects.
• Experience conducting code reviews and providing technical guidance to other developers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good knowledge of English language.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle production-critical issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
